FAQ's

How to get started.

The first step is to reach out to the practice to inquire about available time slots that would best suit your schedule. We strive to be as accommodative as possible. You are welcome to schedule a session either telephonically or via email. Please remember to bring along your medical aid card and ID when you come for your first session.

What can I expect from my first appointment?

Taking the first step of scheduling a session might feel daunting and it is normal to feel anxious leading up to the session. Rest assured, you will be met with respect and empathy in a non-judgmental, private and safe environment. The first session is typically reserved for gaining information about you as well as the areas you wish to focus on during your therapeutic journey. Collaboratively, we will create therapeutic goals and a plan as well as discuss the frequency of your sessions. The main objective of therapy is for us to work together towards your healing and growth.

How long is a session and how often will I be required to attend sessions?

Sessions typically last between 50-60 minutes. You can expect the first three sessions to occur once per week. Weekly sessions allow for the formation of a strong therapeutic relationship and work towards establishing momentum toward your treatment goals. Session frequency may change as you progress and become more comfortable applying what you have learned in your sessions.

Are appointments referral-based only?

You do not require a referral letter to schedule an appointment unless you were referred by another professional and provided with a referral letter.

If I'm unable to attend my scheduled appointment, what should I do?

If your are unable to attend your scheduled session, please let us know as soon as possible. Except under certain extenuating circumstances, a 50% cancellation fee will be charged for appointments cancelled less than 24 hours in advance.

Do you also offer psychological services to children?

Psychological services are provided for children from 5 years and upwards. Before a minor (under 16 years) is seen, a parental intake session will be scheduled with the parents/legal guardians of the child. The child will be seen for three sessions which will be followed by a parental feedback session. This feedback session is used to provide valuable feedback as well as discuss the most appropriate treatment plan for your child.

What happens if my medical aid funds become depleted?

Prior to each session, your medical aid funds will be verified with your medical aid. This ensures that your following session will be covered by your medical aid. Should your medical aid funds become depleted or a claim is not fully paid by your medical aid, this will be communicated well in advance so as to be able to make alternative arrangements.
